Plato's Gnat - what's in the name?

The “gnat of Athens” was the nickname of Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher[1]. Socrates earned the nickname for persistently quizzing his leaders. Socrates and Plato were friends, fellow philosophers and existentialists, intent on applying life's fundamental principles to how they lived.

Janet Karasz, founder of Plato's Gnat, also believes in asking the hard questions and living true to her fundamental beliefs. This includes the workaday world, where we spend so much of our time. Janet is pleased to think of herself as Plato’s gnat, buzzing in the ears of the bureaucrats, asking simple questions that lead to change. If we have forgotten why the rule was made in the first place, maybe it is time to question the rule.
